Job Title: Penalty Review / Power of Attorney Processing Specialist
Position Summary The Penalty Review / Power of Attorney (POA) Processing Specialist is responsible for reviewing validating and processing AZ Form 285 and AZ Form 290 submissions. This role supports taxpayer inquiries ensures accurate routing and documentation and maintains secure organized records for all paper email and fax submissions. The specialist provides Tier 1 customer support assists with research and issue resolution and ensures compliance with statutes laws and departmental procedures.
This is a hybrid position (90% remote / 10% onsite for mail processing).
Key Responsibilities Form Processing & Documentation - Process incoming AZ Form 285 and AZ Form 290 submissions ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and process POA and Penalty Abatement forms for data entry into the tax accounting system or PRU team inventory master.
- Maintain secure organized storage of all paper email and fax documentation.
- Process incoming mail as assigned.
Customer & Taxpayer Support - Serve as a point of contact for taxpayer inquiries related to AZ Forms 285 and 290.
- Provide basic Tier 1 customer assistance regarding form completion.
- Route emails appropriately within the AZTaxHelp delegated inbox.
- Escalate complex inquiries or cases to senior team members.
Research & Issue Resolution - Research and resolve POA and prescreening questions.
- Apply statutes laws and procedures related to filing requirements and penalty/interest assessments.
- Mathematically calculate tax penalty and interest assessments using departmental policies.
General Duties - Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
- Follow established processes workflows and departmental guidelines.
- Perform additional duties related to the position as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications - Associates Degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience preferred (accounting business tax or related fields).
- Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office especially Sheets/Excel and Gmail.
- Strong research analytical critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of accounting and mathematical principles.
- Ability to provide call handling and customer support.
- 10-key proficiency.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment (approximately 10% onsite).
- Spanish-speaking is a plus.
Additional Requirements - R2R and Cover Letter required with submission.
- Must be able to come onsite as needed to support mail processing.
