Co-ordinate validate and approve repairs and maintenance of tractor units and trailers liaising with the Central Fleet Teams external suppliers maintainers & manufacturers to ensure that all repairs are carried out to the highest standard and best value and in line with legal compliance business requirements and company operating procedures and processes.
Flexibility to work out of one of the Fowler Welch locations. Location will be discussed further during application process.
Working hours: Monday to Friday 07.00-16.00
Key Duties of Fleet Desktop Engineer:
- Validate received charges and separate damage and maintenance costs for Central Fleet.
- Check system to avoid cost duplication.
- Check vehicles against known lease agreements with full R&M reject as necessary.
- Process all costs as per the approved GO policy.
- Ensure all costs over R&M are discussed with manufacturers for maximum support and reduction of cost to business.
- Monitor incident logs and ensure associated costs are communicated to DDMs for damage analysis.
- Check for closure of costs over 5k to ensure comms to Central Insurance enabling FW to recharge.
- On estimates over 5k ensure min 2 x quotes and details of quotes analysed for similarity value and inclusions liaise with repair agents to get fixed quotes where possible.
- Work with TCAM to ensure costs received in a timely manner highlighting problem SPs to TCM for escalation.
- Control daily VOR accuracy and liaise with Depots ref SP arrival times/dates.
- Control long term VOR in line with FW targets by chasing process actions and SPs for turnaround times.
- Liaise with Depots to ensure timely actioning of requests for quotes and ensure kit made available for collection.
- Chase repair agents daily for estimated return dates and progress reports.
- Ensure minimum VOR for main peak times by close liaison with SPs pre each peak.
- Validate BU/location that caused damage and check for incident reporting.
- Compile log of non FW caused damage by BU for analysis each month and liaise with BUs to ensure incidents are logged for all damage to FW assets.
- Ensure all costs for major incidents collated into same E Ref / J Number for total costs recharge to Central Insurance.
- Validate MOT failures and chase investigative reports create trend analysis by SP and location.
- You will work to the highest standard and demonstrate a sound up-to-date knowledge of vehicle and trailer repair techniques
- Calculate costings and the time required to complete all necessary repairs.
- There will be an element of holiday cover for the CLL/CML Desktop Engineer.
Qualifications :
- Previous experience in a similar position within the logistics industry.
- Engineering and/or maintenance experience.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft packages.
- Mechanical & operational understanding of trucks and trailers are essential.
- Demonstrate cost discipline and control.
- Good level of numeracy and literacy.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Problem solving skills to drive improvement in performance.
- Confident in dealing with people at all levels.
