Position Description

The Building Operator will be a member of the Facilities team and will report to the General Manager Facility Assets and will be responsible for the maintenance of all YMCA building and mechanical systems.
The successful candidate will get satisfaction from a job well done and will enjoy figuring out the cause of a malfunctioning piece of equipment or facility problem and fixing it. Your process is careful and systematic understanding that safety is vital for yourself the members that swim and work out with us the children being cared for and your coworkers who make the YMCA a welcoming place. What Youll Do:
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems and program equipment across YMCA branches in Hamilton Burlington and Brantford. This includes inspecting HVAC systems electrical panels plumbing fixtures and fitness equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Coordinate and oversee external contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance work. You will schedule service visits monitor work quality and ensure compliance with YMCA standards and safety regulations.
- Manage inventory of equipment parts and place orders with approved suppliers to maintain stock levels. This involves tracking usage forecasting needs and ensuring timely delivery to avoid operational disruptions.
- Maintain accurate records of building systems equipment servicing and compliance documentation. You will use digital tools or logs to document inspections repairs and certifications for audits and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct daily and annual pool maintenance (training provided and in collaboration with branch facilities) including water quality testing chemical balancing and equipment checks to meet health and safety standards.
- Ensure all facilities are clean safe and well-maintained to deliver an exceptional experience for members staff volunteers and program participants. This includes identifying hazards reporting issues promptly and supporting emergency response when needed.
What You Bring:
- Education: Two (2) years of post-secondary education in Maintenance Services Building Systems Mechanical Maintenance Fundamentals or a related field. Trade certification or equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- Technical Skills: Experience in building trades preferably in one or more of the following areas: electrical plumbing or carpentry. Knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve facility and equipment issues systematically and safely.
- Familiarity with compliance documentation and record-keeping.
- Willingness to complete pool maintenance training (provided by YMCA).
