Role description:

Arcadis is excited to be expanding its Nuclear team specifically focusing on Civil and Defence Nuclear across the country. We are seeking an Assistant Commercial Manager to support the successful delivery of the multiple this role you will work under the guidance of the Senior Commercial Manager and a Commercial Director as part of the wider project team. Your responsibilities will include assisting with contract management and supporting the commercial management of supply chain contracts as well as participating in procurement activities for the project.

You will be expected to collaborate effectively with stakeholders ensuring adherence to commercial and business governance frameworks processes and procedures. Key responsibilities include contributing to performance management assisting with risk mitigation supporting issue resolution and participating in financial oversight change control and compliance efforts. You will also be encouraged to focus on continuous improvement in all areas of your work.

You could be part of establishing a major programme offering you the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of a national infrastructure project. While this is a fast-paced and exciting challenge you should be comfortable with uncertainty ambiguity and change.

Role accountabilities:

  • Support the management of contracts assisting with the delivery and compliance of one or more contracts under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Assist with contract-related activities including mobilization performance monitoring contract amendments risk tracking and transition or exit strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure governance compliance and adherence to performance management frameworks escalating issues or risks to senior team members when necessary.
  • Support the review and administration of contract variations ensuring alignment with organizational goals and providing recommendations where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of contract performance helping to assess value for money and report findings to senior colleagues.
  • Assist in tracking the realization of benefits from performance management regimes or change control processes escalating non-delivery issues as required.
  • Monitor risk and reward mechanisms within contracts and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure effective performance.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders suppliers and contractors to promote collaboration and mutual benefits.
  • Assist in holding suppliers accountable for their contractual commitments supporting the resolution of disputes effectively and efficiently.
  • Contribute to maintaining accurate systems reporting and management information to support decision-making processes.
  • Ensure alignment with project strategies and broader government commercial policies supporting adherence to best practices and frameworks such as those from the Infrastructure and Projects Authority Government Commercial Function and National Audit Office.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in a related field preferred or demonstrable professional experience.
  • Chartered Member (or working towards) of a relevant professional body (i.e. RICS ICE IACM CIARB).
  • Ideally you will have experience working within the Nuclear sector however a background within any regulated environment will also be considered (i.e. Road Rail Water Energy etc.)
  • Experience in supporting the management of contracts with a good understanding of contract management principles and the commercial lifecycle.
  • Exposure to procuring consultancy construction or engineering contracts with a foundational understanding of relevant public sector procurement legislation and strategies.
  • Good commercial knowledge with the ability to apply commercial principles under the guidance of senior team members and an interest in achieving value for money in projects.
  • Developing skills in risk analysis and decision-making with the ability to identify potential issues and support the development of recommendations.
  • Awareness of ethical standards in supply chains with the ability to support the communication and enforcement of these standards to prevent unethical practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team contributing to a positive team dynamic and assisting in the resolution of internal challenges.
  • Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and support decision-making processes.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of managing trade-offs within contracts with a willingness to learn and adapt approaches to achieve effective outcomes.
  • You should be eligible to complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) working at OFFICIAL level. Ideally would hold UKSV Security Clearance (or have the eligibility to gain)
