AirCare BLS EMT - Ground Transport

What youll do:

Functions as a member of the transport team and is responsible for the care of ill and injured patients safe and efficient operation of the vehicle including maintaining the vehicles in mission ready status. Provides patient care while promoting safety and efficiency. Performs under the direct supervision of the Medical Control Physician either by continuous radio contact or direct consultation. Maintains necessary certifications/licensures skills continuing education and complete competency checks as required.

Were Looking For:

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • North Carolina EMT certification required
  • 1 year experience driving emergency vehicles preferred
  • BLS required
  • Advocate Health approved driving course to be completed within 90 days of hire
  • Must have valid drivers license and qualify as insurable by Advocate Health insurance carrier requirements for driving AirCare vehicles
  • Previous transport or pre-hospital experience preferred

    • Recognize and treat any medical condition with appropriate techniques equipment and knowledge of all State and Department Polices and Protocols including (BIAD) Blind Insertion Airway Device and medications approved by NCOEMS and the Medical Director.
    • Ensures that the ambulance is clean washed and kept in a neat and orderly condition each shift.
    • Determines that the vehicle is in proper mechanical condition by utilizing daily check-off sheets and reporting any known issues.
    • Ensures that the ambulance patient care area is clean restocked equipment in working order and kept in a neat and orderly condition at the beginning of each shift and when necessary to maintain a mission ready status when serving in a patient care role.
  • Must be capable of handling equipment challenges and failures without support of internal hospital resources.
    • Obtains necessary signatures and paperwork for each transport
    • Thoroughly documents medical care and treatments of patients in the EHR.
  • Must maintain annual compliance in education related to specialty area and/or primary base location outside of typical Paramedic practice.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Duties require working and transporting patients in ambulances. Driving vehicles including ambulances in all weather conditions. Required to drive to and work at multiple locations across NC based on staffing needs.
  • Must not have any physical emotional or mental impairment to prevent them from riding driving or administering patient care in transport vehicles. This work area has cramped space and can be poorly lit. Noise levels are moderate as associated with working in and around emergency vehicles. Requires handling of patients that may have infectious disease possible exposure to unpleasant conditions and / or handling of contaminated materials or patients.
  • Heavy lifting required with the assistance of a partner to load patients unload patients and carry equipment. Good physical stamina and endurance are necessary to perform duties. Teammates must maintain fitness standards in accordance with the fitness of duty policy.
  • Must have an intact sense of sight hearing smell and touch. Finger dexterity good motor and eye-hand coordination required. Requires good personal hygiene and appropriate conduct. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include but not limited to speaking English in good understandable terms.
  • Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the Director or Manager.
  • Works in an autonomous environment that requires patient management and critical decision-making based upon dynamic patient status with limited resources and support.
