Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support Project Managers and leadership teams across large-scale construction projects. This role focuses on project billing job cost tracking subcontract and vendor invoice review financial reporting and cost forecasting to ensure projects remain financially accurate compliant and profitable.
The ideal candidate is proactive detail-driven and comfortable working closely with project teams subcontractors and executive leadership in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities

Manage project-specific billing including preparation of detailed customer invoices tracking contract values change orders and lien waivers to ensure contractual and client compliance.

Maintain and reconcile project cost reports ensuring accurate job cost projections and timely financial reporting.

Review and code subcontractor and vendor invoices validating against purchase orders contracts and delivery documentation.

Process and track subcontract agreements and purchase orders ensuring alignment with company standards and project-specific requirements.

Collaborate with Project Managers and Field Supervision to support accurate cost-to-complete forecasts budget tracking and change order documentation.

Prepare monthly financial reports and participate in project review meetings to evaluate project performance risks and profitability.

Track project budgets commitments and actual costs identifying variances and communicating potential issues to project and finance leadership.

Serve as a liaison between project teams subcontractors suppliers and accounting to resolve discrepancies and maintain compliance with corporate and client standards.

Assist with audit requests client-required reporting and other accounting and finance-related tasks associated with large construction projects.

Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes reporting tools and standardized workflows.
Must Have
-
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (or equivalent construction accounting experience).

3 years of project accounting experience in the construction industry.

Strong knowledge of job cost accounting contract billing and construction financial controls.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables lookups advanced formulas).

Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

High attention to detail with strong analytical and documentation skills.

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project field and corporate teams.
Preferred
-
Experience supporting large or mega construction projects.

Experience using Spectrum ERP or other construction accounting or financial systems.

Familiarity with subcontract agreements purchase orders change orders and lien waivers.

Experience participating in project financial reviews and audits.
