Job Summary
The Medication Technician is responsible for coordinating and overseeing medication-related care to ensure resident safety regulatory compliance and accurate documentation. This role supports the Health & Wellness team by managing medication administration processes maintaining medication rooms coordinating with pharmacies and healthcare providers and monitoring resident medication use in accordance with established regulations and physician orders.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident charts including community forms licensing documentation physician orders and incident reports.

Communicate changes in resident status to nursing leadership and administration.

Ensure all medication documentation is current and accurate including medication administration records and change orders.

Oversee medication programs during resident absences.

Ensure medication rooms are fully stocked with prescribed PRN OTC and other physician-ordered medications.

Coordinate with external pharmacies regarding staff training audits medication deliveries and medication disposal.

Communicate with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed.
-
Monitor psychotropic medication use to ensure consistency with physician orders and observed resident needs.

Control access to medication rooms and manage key assignments.
-
Prepare pass and assist with medication administration in compliance with applicable regulations.

Assist with scheduling and coordination of medical appointments.
-
Review care documentation between caregiver shifts to ensure continuity of care.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Successful completion of a certified Medication Technician training program.
-
Minimum of six months of experience in long-term care home care or a related healthcare setting.
-
Current CPR certification.
-
Ability to read write and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

Strong communication and basic math skills.
-
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office or willingness to learn documentation systems within a designated timeframe.

Ability to work flexible hours and provide coverage or overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
-
Frequent standing walking stooping bending stretching and squatting throughout the workday.
-
Ability to lift transfer reposition and assist residents as required including handling mobility equipment.
-
Ability to push or pull carts and equipment independently.
-
Exposure to blood and bodily fluids and other healthcare-related environmental conditions.
-
Ability to maintain physical stamina and focus for the majority of the workday.
-
May encounter challenging behaviors and workplace conditions typical of a healthcare environment.
