We are seeking a dedicated enthusiastic and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southampton starting as soon as possible. This role provides an exciting opportunity to teach pupils as they transition from Reception into Key Stage 1 helping them develop strong foundations in literacy numeracy and personal growth while fostering a love of learning.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class delivering high-quality lessons that are engaging interactive and differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils. The Role
As a Year 1 Teacher you will plan deliver and assess lessons across all curriculum subjects ensuring pupils are challenged while receiving appropriate support. You will track progress identify gaps in learning and adapt your teaching to ensure all pupils make strong progress academically and socially. Encouraging independence resilience and confidence will be central to your practice.
You will work closely with teaching assistants colleagues and phase leaders to maintain consistency and high standards across Key Stage 1. Clear communication with parents and carers will be an essential part of your role supporting pupils learning both in school and at home.
Key Responsibilities
Plan deliver and assess high-quality lessons in line with the Year 1 curriculum
Track pupil progress and use assessment to inform planning
Differentiate learning for all pupils including SEND and EAL learners
Maintain a structured positive and inclusive classroom environment
Promote positive behaviour independence and resilience
Collaborate with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Participate in staff meetings CPD and whole-school initiatives
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching Key Stage 1 ideally Year 1
Be confident in delivering phonics early literacy and numeracy
Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Be reflective adaptable and proactive
Show a clear commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
Work positively as part of a team
