Job Summary

Shift - 6am-2:30pm

General Summary

  • Under frequent supervision the Mobility Technician is a multi-skilled individual who provides a wide variety of clinical tasks/procedures for the patient as a member of the patient care team.  The Mobility Technician provides any basic patient care duties and assists with tasks to assist with the progression of the patients plan of care. The Mobility Technician performs designated tasks that are predetermined for each patient and assigned by a licensed therapist (PT /OT/SP/CP). Communication with the Patient Care Team is pivotal to their role to assist with appropriate progression of the patient.  Patients served include all age groups (infant through adult-geriatric).
  • The Mobility Technician may also assists the patient with activities of daily living maintaining a quiet therapeutic and clean environment.  The Mobility Technician will spend the vast majority of time at the patients bedside meeting their basic physical and environmental needs based on an individualized plan of care.  The Mobility Technician will perform the following skills/procedures (includes but not limited to): phlebotomy IV starts/restarts Foley insertion (ED only) simple sterile dressing changes   Population served includes infants children and adults.

Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current CNA certification from the MBON.
  • One Year of experience in a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) or a similar position or two (2) semesters of clinical experience in formal Nursing Education with a certificate from the MBON
  • Current AHA Health Care Provider (CPR) card.

Working Conditions

  • Works inside in a clean well-lighted environment.  May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials such as chemicals and cleaning agents requiring the observation of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. Employee may be exposed to physical/verbal abuse by a patient/family member.  In the event this occurs report to immediate supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Works an assigned shift depending on the needs of the unit maybe expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary.  May be expected to float to another unit to support staffing and patient needs.  This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion on an annual respirator mask fitting. 

Physical Requirements

Requires bending/stooping/crouching/kneeling approximately 50% of the time in the delivery of patient evaluation and treatment. Requires reaching/grasping/handling of small equipment and paperwork weighing up to 20 lb. approximately 70% of the time in the delivery of patient care and performance of clerical duties. Requires standing and walking approximately 80% of the time; with occasional stair climbing. Requires lifting and positioning patients weighing in excess of 100 lbs. with the assistance of others or ergonomic equipment and utilizing proper body mechanics approximately 50% of the time in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Requires pushing/pulling equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. approximately 20% of the time requires carrying supplies/equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. approximately 50% of the time. Requires substantial movements/motions of the wrists hands and/or fingers as in performing treatment procedures approximately 50% of the time. Requires good visual acuity to read patient records and equipment monitors; requires adequate ability to receive detailed information conveyed through oral communication in the process of evaluating and treating patients accurately clearly quickly approximately 80% of the time.
