Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: MAINTENANCE CRAFTSMAN - GENERAL

MAINTENANCE - PAINTER - PLOW

TYPE:UFCW Local 1459 Crafstman

SALARY: Per Terms of Employment forUFCW Local 1459

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

1. Assists in estimates technical correspondence and specifications and reads blueprints.

  1. Work with and install hardware of all types on school structures.
  2. Perform skilled work in painting marking surface preparation cleaning and graffiti removal. Must possess an area of general and advanced painting skills and be skilled in minor and major maintenance repairs
  3. Performs skilled painting work in the preparation patching finishing and maintaining of all building structures walls woodwork furniture parking lots athletic fields playgrounds and equipment by inspecting the work site to determine the materials equipment tools and method to be used; following a plan layout sketch or schematic for the project or an established color scheme; mixing and matching pigments stains or varnishes to the required color tint and/or texture; assembling or building and installing scaffolding materials and equipment as required by the scope of work; and using paint brushes rollers and/or sprayers sandpaper sanders steel wool wire brushes and related painting tools.
  4. Completes assigned painting projects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper power sanders steel wool wire brushes scrapers paint removers and chemicals filling nail holes cracks or joints with putty plaster or other fillers applying paints stains varnishes enamel or lacquer using paint brushes rollers and/or sprayers and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
  5. Protects building property and equipment from damage during painting work by removing furniture wall fixtures and equipment from work sites if possible or covering immoveable items with protective cloths covering floors with cloths or tarpaulins taping woodwork facings and decorative trims and erecting safe scaffolding in a manner that prevents damage.
  6. Restores painting work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing scaffolding painting cloths tarpaulins and masking tape used during the project returning furniture and equipment to their proper location setting up equipment that had been dismantled and cleaning any paint splatters from surfaces furniture or equipment.
  7. Practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition oiling moving parts cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operators manual and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.
  8. Must be able to safely and completely operate a snow plow and sander.

10. Any other duties assigned by the Director of Maintenance or designee or capable of performing.

  1. Must be familiar with and adhere to Local and State Building Codes and Laws as well as insurance regulations. Must acquire proper permits at School Department expense when applicable.
  2. Responds to emergency service calls as directed. Analyzes troubleshoots repairs and restores equipment/systems to full operation and recommends revisions when necessary for effectiveness. Alerts the Supervisor to equipment/systems requiring further analysis or potential replacement.
  3. Observe and inform the Director of Maintenance of safety hazards.
  4. Estimate the amount of required supplies for projects; select the type of material necessary.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

l . Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.

  1. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches and be able to work from oral and written instructions.
  2. Ability to make estimates of time and material.
  3. Ability to operate a skid loader and well-versed in operating snowplow removal equipment such as snow blowers and snow plows.
  4. Minimum 5 years experience in general and advanced painting skills.
  5. Able to work collaboratively with all district personnel and students.
  6. Strong communication job coordination and organizational skills.
  7. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word PowerPoint Excel).
  8. Must pass district CORI and background checks.

ADA & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers copiers adding machines etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift carry push and pull or otherwise move objects including the human body Must be able to stand crouch and bend over for a long period of time at intervals throughout the day.

  1. Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data people or things.

  1. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence reports forms newsletters schedules manuals invoices requisitions menus recipes joumals etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence reports forms evaluations procedures charts surveys articles bid specifications brochures news releases handbooks budgets etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation grammar diction and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise voice control and confidence.

5. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  1. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical legal accounting and marketing terminology.
  2. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra and geometry.
  3. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape.
  4. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  5. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

11. Interpersonal: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
