The Research Associate provides advanced technical and analytical support for faculty-led research projects in Chemical Engineering and related interdisciplinary areas (e.g. materials science physics mathematics statistics and computer science). The position involves conducting experiments operating specialized research equipment analyzing complex datasets and contributing to scholarly publications and grant proposals. The Research Associate applies advanced disciplinary knowledge to support innovative research activities and experimental design.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability and renewal of grant funding.
The salary is determined in accordance with the Universitys compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates education and experience within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
Plan and conduct advanced research in chemical engineering and related areas.
Perform experimental testing and analyze experimental and computational data.
Prepare and characterize samples following established research protocols.
Operate maintain and troubleshoot specialized laboratory equipment.
Ensure compliance with technical specifications safety standards and research procedures.
Develop implement and refine experimental methods and processes.
Conduct technically complex investigations with a high degree of independence.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and external partners.
Assist in the preparation of research publications technical reports and grant proposals.
Apply advanced disciplinary knowledge to support innovative research initiatives.
Manage multiple research tasks and timelines effectively.
Support evaluation of research progress and assist with mentoring or supervision of research personnel or students as applicable.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in relevant field.
Two years of related professional experience.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with specialized chemical engineering laboratory and/or technical equipment.
Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases perform statistical analyses present data and perform other computer related tasks.
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering or physical science discipline.
Demonstrated experience with laboratory research experimental design and data analysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and scholarly dissemination.
Experience supporting externally funded research projects.
Prior involvement in preparing journal articles or research proposals.
Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments.
