The Western Vocal Teacher will deliver high-quality vocal instruction nurturing students vocal health technical range and musical expression. The role focuses on developing confident soloists and ensemble singers through a deep understanding of vocal anatomy and stylistic diversity. The teacher will be responsible for creating an environment that celebrates vocal diversity and builds students confidence for stage performances.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Learning (Vocal Focus)
Plan and deliver engaging vocal lessons that balance technical warm-ups with stylistic repertoire.
Develop core skills in breathing intonation diction and range expansion appropriate for primary and secondary learners.
Integrate sight-singing and music theory into practical sessions to build independent musicians.
Differentiate instruction to support various vocal types skill levels and musical preferences.
2. Curriculum & Vocal Development
Design a progressive vocal curriculum that builds a strong foundation in both contemporary and classical western singing.
Promote appreciation for vocal history ranging from choral traditions to modern pop and jazz icons.
Encourage creative expression through vocal improvisation scatting and song interpretation.
3. Assessment & Documentation
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor vocal progress technical growth and performance readiness.
Document learning evidence through audio/video recordings performance logs and student portfolios.
Provide constructive feedback and prepare students for international vocal grade examinations (e.g. Trinity College London ABRSM or Rockschool).
4. Collaboration & School Engagement
Collaborate with the music and drama departments to lead school choirs and vocal ensembles for school events.
Participate in planning meetings school concerts assemblies and theatrical productions.
Support school initiatives such as talent shows choral competitions and community singing events.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Music (Vocal Performance) or a professional diploma from a recognized conservatory.
Grade 8 Certification in Singing from recognized boards (e.g. Trinity ABRSM or Rockschool) is highly preferred.
Certification in contemporary vocal pedagogy (e.g. Estill or CVT) is an added advantage.
Eligibility & Experience Requirements
Minimum 5 years of total teaching experience Compulsory.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a school or reputed music academy Preferred.
Experience in preparing students for Trinity/ABRSM/Rockschool vocal exams.
Positions are open for experienced candidates only. Freshers need not apply.
