The Drums Teacher will deliver high-energy structured percussion instruction fostering rhythmic precision and creative expression. The role focuses on building a solid technical foundation from basic stick control to advanced limb independence and syncopation. The teacher will be responsible for inspiring a passion for rhythm while ensuring students develop the discipline required for both solo excellence and collaborative band performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Learning (Percussion Focus)
Plan and deliver engaging drum lessons that balance fundamental rudiments with contemporary song play-along sessions.
Develop limb independence coordination and dynamic control appropriate for primary and secondary learners.
Integrate rhythmic theory including notation reading and chart following into practical lessons.
Differentiate instruction to accommodate various learning speeds and musical tastes (e.g. Heavy Metal to Orchestral Percussion).
2. Curriculum & Rhythmic Development
Design a progressive percussion curriculum that builds a strong vocabulary in grooves fills and soloing.
Promote appreciation for global rhythmic traditions and the evolution of the modern drum set.
Encourage creative improvisation and the ability to compose original drum parts for diverse musical contexts.
3. Assessment & Documentation
Use practical benchmarks to monitor progress in timing technique and musicality.
Document learning evidence through video recordings performance assessments and digital portfolios.
Provide constructive feedback and prepare students for international music grade examinations (e.g. Trinity College London Rockschool or ABRSM).
4. Collaboration & School Engagement
Collaborate with the music department to provide the rhythmic foundation for school bands orchestras and theater productions.
Participate in planning meetings school concerts assemblies and house competitions.
Support school initiatives by organizing percussion workshops and maintaining the schools drum kits and equipment.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Music or a professional diploma in Percussion from a recognized institution.
Grade 8 Certification in Drums from recognized boards (e.g. Trinity Rockschool) is highly preferred.
Knowledge of auxiliary percussion (Cajon Tabla or Congas) is an added advantage.
Eligibility & Experience Requirements
Minimum 5 years of total teaching experience Compulsory.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a school or reputed music academy Preferred.
Experience in preparing students for Trinity/Rockschool practical exams.
Positions are open for experienced candidates only. Freshers need not apply.
