The Guitar Teacher will deliver high-quality instrumental instruction to students across various age groups fostering a deep love for music and technical excellence. The role focuses on developing students rhythmic precision fingerstyle/plectrum techniques and performance confidence. The teacher will be responsible for building a vibrant guitar program that encourages both solo proficiency and ensemble participation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Learning (Instrumental focus)
Plan and deliver engaging guitar lessons that balance technical exercises with a diverse musical repertoire.
Develop fingerstyle plectrum and rhythmic techniques appropriate for beginners to advanced learners.
Integrate music theory and fretboard logic into practical sessions to build well-rounded musicians.
Differentiate instruction to support various age groups learning speeds and musical interests.
2. Curriculum & Musical Development
Design a structured progressive guitar syllabus that builds vocabulary chord knowledge and sight-reading skills.
Promote appreciation for diverse musical genres from classical and jazz to contemporary rock and pop.
Encourage meaningful expression through improvisation songwriting and ensemble playing.
3. Assessment & Documentation
Use various assessment strategies to monitor progress in technical skill and musicality.
Document learning evidence through recordings progress reports and student performance portfolios.
Provide constructive feedback and prepare students for international music grade examinations (e.g. Trinity Rockschool).
4. Collaboration & School Engagement
Collaborate with the performing arts team and specialists for interdisciplinary projects and school productions.
Participate in planning meetings school events assemblies and music exhibitions.
Support school initiatives such as choir accompaniment school bands and cultural celebrations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Music or a professional diploma from a recognized music conservatory/institution.
Grade 8 Certification from recognized boards (e.g. Trinity College London RSL Awards/Rockschool or ABRSM) is highly preferred.
Multi-instrumental ability (e.g. Ukulele or Bass) is an added advantage.
Eligibility & Experience Requirements
Minimum 5 years of total teaching experience Compulsory.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a school or reputed music academy environment Preferred.
Experience in preparing students for Trinity/Rock school practical and theory exams.
Positions are open for experienced candidates only. Freshers need not apply.
