The Academic Advisor is responsible for supporting the mission of the University by assisting students with the development of Academic Plans of Study appropriate for their stated educational goals. The Academic Advisor works collaboratively with key stakeholders throughout the University and functions as a member of the Academic Advising Team. This person supports the mission of the University by contributing to a campus environment and culture that synthesizes the spiritual intellectual physical social and emotional development of our students in a holistic way. The Academic Advisor works in direct support of the Senior Academic Advisor and Director of Academic Support Services and in close collaboration with all members of the Student Affairs Division. The Academic Advisor assists with advising all relevant University-wide efforts and recruitment events as needed. The scope of the position requires occasional weekend and evening work. Occasional travel may be required. #CB
ResponsibilitiesJOB STANDARDS
- Mission Advancement
- Actively engages the Catholic and Franciscan mission and identity of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University by modeling the Franciscan values honoring the legacy of the founding congregation promoting justice for the communities we serve and integrating the Catholic and Franciscan intellectual traditions in programs courses and services
- Academic Advising
- Provide personalized Academic Advising to new and continuing students ensuring they receive guidance tailored to their educational needs
- Support for At-Risk Students
- Advise at-risk students by connecting them with University resources and developing effective academic plans to enhance their success
- Transfer Student Support
- Guide transfer students through their transition to the University addressing their unique challenges and ensuring a smooth integration
- Recruitment Participation
- Actively participate in recruitment events such as Open House and Transfer Days to attract and support prospective students
- Records and Documentation
- Manage and maintain advisee academic records documenting recommendations accurately using retention software
- Professional Growth
- Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with elective Academic Advising practices and techniques
- Commitment to Diversity
- Promote knowledge respect and engagement with diverse cultures and backgrounds to foster an inclusive Advising environment
- Advising Office and Program Support
- Contribute to the overall success of the Advising Office by preforming assigned responsibilities and supporting additional program needs
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Support various programs events and administrative tasks aimed at fulfilling institutional goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned
QualificationsEXPERIENCE
- Experience in Academic Advising in higher education preferred. Extensive knowledge of the University its requirements and regulations preferred;
- At least three (3) years of full-time professional work experience in higher education preferred
EDUCATION
- Bachelors Degree in Education Counseling or a related field required
- Masters Degree preferred
SPECIAL SKILLS
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict management and working collaboratively as part of a team;
- Proficient in electronic student information systems;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Knowledge of relevant federal state and institutional higher education compliance and regulations;
- Demonstrated experience in higher education student development collaborative leadership fostering teamwork and adapting to the changing needs of students
