Position Title: Drama Conservatory Director

Salary Range: $450/week

Position type: Part-time Seasonal (Spring Semester)

The Nueva School: The Nueva School is a world leader in innovative and gifted education dedicated to providing integrated hands-on project-based learning.

Position Summary: Nueva is seeking a passionate and collaborative theater professional to lead a 14-week conservatory intensive for 7th-grade students. This role involves teaching core theatrical skills and directing students in a culminating Shakespeare performance. The director will work with gifted learners to foster a creative inclusive and nurturing environment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Lead 3x per week drama classes and rehearsals focusing on skill development in acting and performance.
  • Directing: Guide students through the process of exploring and rehearsing theater productions. This year we seek a director willing to direct Shakespeare or Shakespeare adaptations.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside the Middle School Drama leadership team to finalize program goals and student growth.
  • Performance Management: Oversee the final week of performances ensuring a professional and supportive experience for all student participants.

Program Schedule The program runs for 14 weeks beginning the week of February 23 and concluding with performances the week of May 25.

  • Weekly Classes: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:003:15 pm and Fridays from 8:309:45 am.
  • Scheduled Breaks: The program will observe two weeks off: Spring Break (week of April 6) and the 7th-grade trip (week of May 11).
  • Performances: Culminating performances will take place on Tuesday and Thursday during the final week (May 26 and May 28).

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in directing theater productions preferably with middle school-aged youth.
  • Willingness to teach and direct Shakespeare.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate gifted learners in a collaborative fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage student dynamics effectively.

Compensation

  • Weekly Stipend: $450 per week.
  • Performance Bonus: Additional $100 for the culminating performance night.
