Job Summary

POSITION:Certification Officer Assistant Professor of Education
POSITION DESCRIPTION:East Texas Baptist University invites applications for a full-time career-track position in The School of Education as Certification Officer and Assistant Professor of Education. The position begins August 2026 and will include the Certification Officer duties teaching responsibilities participation in departmental meetings and reviewcontribution to curriculum development and student advising.
DUTIES:
  • Manage Certification Process
    • Review and process all certification-related applications and documentation for candidates.
    • Approve candidate eligibility and recommend graduates to the Texas EducationAgency (TEA) or State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) for teacher licensure.
    • Oversee electronic test approvals for required state exams (e.g. TExES).
  • Ensure Compliance with State Regulations
    • Interpret and apply state rules and TEA/SBEC certification requirements
    • Maintain accurate student records in compliance with state and federalreporting guidelines.
    • Submit required reports to state and federal agencies.
  • Advising & Support
    • Provide guidance to teacher candidates on certification requirementspathways and progress.
    • Assist candidates with documentation timelines and checklists for licensure completion.
  • Data & Record Management
    • Maintain and audit certification databases (e.g. ASEP or other EPPaccountability systems)
    • Generate reports and monitor candidate data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work with academic departments program directors faculty and students tocoordinate certification activities.
    • Disseminate information and updates about certification policies requirementsand deadlines.
  • Additional / Support Duties
    • Assist with development of candidate handbooks and informational materials.
    • Participate in orientations and training sessions for candidates
    • Attend relevant professional development conferences and TEA updates tostay current on certification rules.
    • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the EPP office.
QUALIFICATIONS:ETBU seeks a qualified individual with a terminal degree in Education. Applicants withmasters degrees will be considered. Candidates should have teaching experience and a record of professional involvement. Candidates must have a strong commitment to academic scholarship and teaching as well as the ability to communicate well with students and colleagues. Candidates must possess an appreciation and commitment to teach in Christian higher education through the integration of biblical faith and learning. Candidates must demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Faculty must live lifestyles consistent with the Universitys biblical standards of morality temperance stewardship as well as membership and active participation in the faculty members local Christian church. ETBU faculty are required to participate in the life of the University via faculty/department/school meetings University Chapel services prayer emphases discipleship group studies committee participation local community ministry involvement and attendance at campus activities and events.

Employee provides active support of the spiritual intellectual and educational ideals values activities and objectives of East Texas Baptist University; and conforms to Christian standards of faith and service.
