Pay Rate/Range:$17-18.50/hr
Description: Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coder to support accurate and compliant coding for inpatient services. This role focuses on accurately linking CPT and diagnosis codes reviewing clinical documentation and making sure coding stays compliant with current insurance guidelines.
Key Responsibilities: This role involves accurately linking CPT and diagnosis codes on claims while ensuring progress notes support the reported services. The coder will perform chart audits and provide helpful feedback to physicians verify inpatient behavioral health walk sheets within the Medical EMR system and create and maintain patient demographics as needed. Staying up to date on insurance coding guidelines regulations and payer-specific policies is essential as is participating in ongoing professional development and continuing education. Reliable attendance punctuality and the ability to assist with other related duties as assigned are also key expectations of this position.
- Job Requirements:Required:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent coding certification
OR - Minimum of 2 years of medical coding experience including at least 1 year of psychiatry/behavioral health coding experience (may be considered in lieu of certification)
- Preferred:
- Associate degree in Health Information Management Medical Coding or a related field
- Experience working with Medical EMR systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret clinical documentation accurately
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of CPT ICD-10-CM and behavioral health coding guidelines
- Ability to audit charts and communicate findings professionally with providers
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to stay current with changing coding regulations and payer requirements
Job Type: Contract-to-hire
Shift/Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
