Affectionately known as PoCo we are an award-winning values-based organization made up of a diverse and dedicated team of people who care deeply about the community they serve.
This is recreation work that involves instructing/facilitating programs and services preparing individual program plans and promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activity. We are specifically looking for staff who are available to work our weeklong spring break and summer camps for children (ages 5.5-12) Duties are performed within established guidelines but independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the programs. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of instruction services provided and conformance to established practices.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Instructs facilitates and participates with the individual program delivery for a variety of recreation programs and services within established standards and guidelines.
- Prepares individual program plans for review by a supervisor for assigned recreation programs and services.
- Provides referrals to community resources within established guidelines.
- Represents the Department and the City in a positive professional and customer friendly manner.
- Sets up equipment necessary for assigned programs and service and stores equipment safely following the end of a program or service.
- Maintain routine records reports and enters program data.
- Drafts promotional material for review and approval by a supervisor.
- Provides direction and instruction to other members of the work unit and/or program contractors and provides assistance to others in the department.
- Enforces rules and regulations and ensures required standards of behavior and safety in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as required.
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 6 months full time equivalent experience working in an arts related setting
- Minimum of two post-secondary courses related to community development
- Facilitation training
- Standard First Aid
- Serving It Right
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Considerable knowledge of activities required to be successful in the area of assignment.
- Considerable knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and recreational instruction.
- Sound knowledge of the principles practices and objectives of community recreation programs.
- Demonstrated ability to implement age appropriate activities specific to age development within established guidelines.
- Ability to recognize when to provide referral information regarding community resources to patrons.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with a diverse range of individuals and groups of all ages both internal and external.
- Ability to maintain control with tact and diplomacy and provide instruction in a fun safe controlled and organized manner.
- Ability to understand follow and carry-out oral and written communications.
- Demonstrated skill and leadership abilities working in the area assignment.
