The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1990 (reauthorized in 2004) served as a foundation for the creation of Child Study Teams. At Brookline High School this is called the Student Intervention Team (SIT).
The Brookline High School Student Intervention Team (SIT) is an interdisciplinary collaborative problem-solving team that supports at-risk students by working with their teachers and support sta to develop and implement interventions. The goal of the SIT Team: to address problems and challenges in a timely manner in order to help students succeed in school with interventions that are targeted to their learning needs.
SIT are school-based collaborative problem-solving solution seeking teams.
The BHS SIT meets as a large group to inform whole school vision setting and change for strengthening MTSS at BHS while also simultaneously running active SIT/CST groups to discuss student specic cases.
The goal of these teams is to address problems/challenges in a timely manner in order to help students succeed. This process includes supporting at-risk students and attempting to resolve diculties within the school setting using team problem-solving. Support occurs through recommendations from the SIT team in interventions that may include tiered instruction in academic behavioral health and emotional needs.
The emphasis of SIT is to brainstorm helpful interventions for educators that meet struggling or at-risk students needs and produce positive measurable learning outcomes.
Team members include faculty from regular and special education who meet weekly to both discuss new referrals and check in on the progress of previous referrals to the team. Those educators include regular education teachers school counselors deans school psychologists and special education specialists with facilitation by the BHS Director of Special Education the BHS Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling the BHS Dean of Student Support and the Coordinator of Therapeutic
Programs. Depending on the faculty working with a particular student who is referred to SIT other BHS sta may join in particular SIT discussions - ie. school nurse ELL sta social worker METCO/Steps to Success/ AALSP educators deans etc.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison to support classroom teachers through the SIT process
- Commit to meeting regularly as a member of the SIT and fully engage in the SIT process
- Learn continuously and participate in professional development targeted to SIT
- Support a professional culture of reection inquiry sharing of practice andcollaboration both in SIT and school-wide
- Work for continuous improvement in teaching and learning system-wide
- Value and Participate in the documentation of the work of SIT andcollecting/analyzing data
- Share your own practice with colleagues and model the skills and habits of collaborative problem-solving
SIT teams meet regularly twice a week. The stipend for full 2-day SIT members is $800. The stipend for half 1-day SIT members is $400. The stipend for SIT leaders is $1000 for full participation and additional SIT leadership work and planning. This posting is for those applying for SIT member or leader positions.
