Job Summary

Position Summary: The RN Preadmission conducts comprehensive preoperative assessments to ensure patients are medically prepared for upcoming surgical or procedural care. This role gathers detailed health histories reviews medications identifies potential risk factors and provides individualized education to support safe informed patient preparation. Working collaboratively with surgeons anesthesia providers and perioperative teams the RN Preadmission helps ensure accurate documentation timely medical clearance and smooth coordination across care transitions. As part of a supportive team-oriented environment this position promotes patient safety reduces procedural delays and contributes to a well-organized positive surgical experience. Key Responsibilities: Perform preoperative nursing assessments including medical history review medication reconciliation and identification of potential risk factors that may affect surgical readiness. Conduct preadmission interviews and provide tailored pre- and postoperative education to help patients understand instructions expectations and recovery considerations. Document assessment findings teaching and care-coordination activities accurately within the electronic health record to support clinical decision-making. Collaborate with anesthesia surgical teams and other departments to address clinical concerns ensure required testing is completed and optimize patient preparedness. Evaluate screening results and communicate abnormal findings promptly to appropriate providers to support timely clearance and safe surgical planning. Participate in quality-improvement safety and departmental initiatives that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of preadmission services.

Licenses and Certifications Required Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure CPR certification required within orientation period Educational Requirements Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where degree was received Experience Requirements Experience preferred but not required Special Skills or Training Requirements Physical Requirements: The RN Preadmission regularly sits or stands for extended periods while conducting interviews reviewing records and entering documentation. The role requires periodic walking to clinical areas storage locations or consultation spaces along with occasional lifting or carrying of educational materials and supplies. Adequate vision hearing and manual dexterity are essential for reviewing clinical information communicating with patients and providers and operating computer and office equipment. Environmental Requirements: This position functions primarily in an office and clinic-based environment with routine interaction with patients preparing for surgical or procedural care. The RN may encounter individuals with varying health conditions requiring adherence to infection-control practices and standard precautions. The work includes managing multiple tasks coordinating with several departments and handling time-sensitive information in a fast-paced setting that may include frequent interruptions.
