Job Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) delivers high-quality patient-centered perioperative care in a fast-paced surgical environment. This role supports surgical services through effective patient assessment preparation intraoperative care and interdisciplinary collaboration while adhering to evidence-based practices and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate patients prior to surgery and assess readiness for operative procedures.
Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and the perioperative process.
Prepare patients for surgery including IV therapy preoperative medications and surgical site verification.
Participate in surgical safety protocols including briefings time-outs debriefings and universal precautions.
Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies.
Deliver safe high-quality nursing care using evidence-based practices and continuous improvement principles.
Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary surgical team including providers surgeons and surgical technologists.
Apply the nursing process critical thinking clinical judgment and technical skills to provide independent patient care.
Monitor patient condition throughout the shift and document assessments interventions and outcomes accurately.
Educate patients and caregivers on medical conditions treatment plans and follow-up care.
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of recent Operating Room RN experience (scrub and/or circulating).
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program (RN Diploma or equivalent).
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment start date.
Additional Role Details
On-call requirements: Covered by a dedicated on-call resource (no routine on-call for this role).
Reports to: Nursing Manager
