Job Summary

SUMMARY

The Substitute Teacher is an on-call as needed employee of the school. A Substitute Teacher may be called the day before they are needed or early in the morning on the day of the absence of the regular teacher due to illness or other obligations. A substitute teacher is expected to be a role model for the students like the regular teachers. He or she supports the main school calendar by stepping up when the agreed teacher is unable to take their full responsibilities. The substitute teacher will perform the instructional and classroom management duties forteacherswho are absent for a day or longer periods of time.The Substitute Teacher is directly responsible to the Director of Education.This position is eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Must follow detailed lesson plans and schedules assigned by academic teacher.
  2. Oversee students outside of the classroom in hallways and during all transition times.
  3. Comply with FSYR and Cooke School policy and procedures.
  4. Must be able to work with youth and manage classroom effectively.
  5. Take attendance and document pertinent behaviors on school notes.
  6. Ensure classroom cleanliness.
  7. Must be flexible with availability.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification. Experience working with youth or experience in a similar position is preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge skills and/or abilities required.

Must be fully qualified to instruct or teach the students in the absence of the regular teacher.

  1. Must have the ability to interact and relate with youth in care.
  2. Must be detail oriented and be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  3. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Must have excellent time management skills.
  5. Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.
Pay - $16.00 an Hour

Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse as required by Florida law.
