About the role
As our Family Therapist you will work closely with children young people and families experiencing complex challenges to create meaningful and lasting change. You will provide intensive strengths-based therapeutic support addressing child safety while building trust connection and resilience. You will assess family strengths needs and goals and develop tailored behaviour change plans using motivational interviewing and relational practice.
Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an evidence-based model grounded in respect accountability and hope. It focuses on addressing risk and protective factors within and beyond the family system that impact childrens safety and wellbeing. The model is relational and requires therapists to maintain a non-judgmental culturally responsive and strengths-based approach.
What you get to do
- Work intensively with high-risk families for up to six months delivering in-home family therapy and child protection interventions using a whole-of-family approach.
- Provide home visiting (minimum once per week) and practical evidence-informed interventions.
- Engage and motivate young people and families to reduce conflict negativity and blame and build hope and commitment to change.
- Develop and implement individualised skills-based behaviour change plans tailored to each familys risks strengths and goals.
- Participate in weekly group supervision to support reflective practice peer learning and fidelity to the FFT model.
- Maintain accurate documentation to measure outcomes and contribute to sector-wide practice improvement.
- Refer families to relevant community services to strengthen long-term support and sustain positive change beyond FFT involvement.
- Travel toHurstville once a week for group supervision
- Ability to work flexible hours (latest finish time 8pm)

What YoullBring
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work Welfare Psychologyor a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Demonstrated experience identifying and responding to child protection risk is essential.
- Australian drivers license.
- Experience supporting families with complex needs including work within child protection and/or counselling settings.
- Ability to actively engage assess and case manage at risk families using a strengths-based approach.
- Strong administration and documentation skills with attention to detail in case notes and reporting.
- Excellent relationship building skillsand experience engaging with reluctant clients.
- Desire and confidence to learn new practices and immediately implement techniques and strategies with clients.
