Position Overview
Our client a nationally recognized insurance carrier is seeking an AVP Complex Coverage Claims to serve as a senior individual contributor within their claims organization. This role will focus on the analysis and resolution of highly complex coverage and litigation matters partnering closely with internal stakeholders while directly managing outside defense counsel. This position does not have direct reports and is ideal for a technically strong claims professional who prefers hands-on high-level claim work over people management.
Salary
- $170000 to $190000/year total compensation (based on experience)

Requirements
- 10 years of experience as an attorney and/or senior claims professional with deep technical expertise in property coverage complex coverage disputes and coverage litigation.
- Juris Doctor (JD) required.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex coverage positions clearly and persuasively.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal oversight while exercising sound judgment and accountability.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills including the ability to influence and advise senior-level stakeholders.
- Highly analytical and detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to make timely well-reasoned decisions in high-exposure matters.
- Advanced organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functions including claims underwriting actuarial and legal teams.
- Service- and results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on quality outcomes.
- Must hold or be willing and able to obtain an applicable resident or designated home-state adjuster license with additional state licensure as required.
Job Description
- Select retain and manage outside counsel for coverage disputes including litigation and arbitration matters.
- Oversee all aspects of complex coverage litigation and arbitration including development and execution of litigation settlement and resolution strategies.
- Direct and manage discovery strategy including review and response to discovery requests.
- Participate in and attend deposition preparation depositions mediations arbitrations settlement conferences and trials as appropriate.
- Provide pre-litigation consultation and strategic guidance on complex coverage issues and potential disputes.
- Identify emerging litigation and coverage trends and develop proactive strategies to mitigate exposure and improve outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with Underwriting Actuarial and other internal business partners.
- Actively contribute to and occasionally lead training initiatives including development of training materials and delivery of presentations.
- Provide informal coaching technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior claims professionals without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Prepare and deliver clear concise presentations and recommendations to senior management on complex coverage and litigation matters.
