Position Summary: The Phlebotomist supports high-quality laboratory services by accurately collecting labeling and processing patient specimens in accordance with established safety and quality standards. This role contributes to timely and efficient laboratory workflows by coordinating lab order activation verifying documentation and preparing samples for in-house testing or courier transport. Working closely with laboratory and clinical team members the Phlebotomist interacts directly with patients to provide compassionate professional specimen collection while maintaining strict adherence to identification and infection-control procedures. Through strong attention to detail effective communication and collaboration across care teams this role helps support reliable diagnostic outcomes and a patient-centered laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities: Perform venipuncture and other specimen-collection procedures using proper patient identification labeling and infection-control techniques. Activate and enter laboratory orders into the computer system coordinating with office staff to obtain required orders and verify ABN documentation as needed. Receive prepare and process specimens for delivery to the hospital laboratory or for courier transport ensuring appropriate handling and packaging. Conduct waived testing and assemble or prepare testing kits in accordance with laboratory protocols. Maintain accurate documentation organized workstations and compliance with all laboratory quality and safety standards. Assist with training and onboarding of new phlebotomy staff to support consistent specimen-collection practices.
Licenses and Certifications Required None Educational Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred Experience Requirements 1 year phlebotomy or Lab Assistant experience preferred Special Skills or Training Requirements None Physical Requirements: The Phlebotomist is frequently required to stand walk and move between patient-care areas and laboratory spaces. The role involves bending reaching and performing fine-motor tasks during specimen collection and processing. Light to moderate lifting may be required when handling supply bins specimen containers or transport materials. Adequate vision hearing and manual dexterity are essential for safe specimen collection and accurate labeling. Environmental Requirements: Work is performed in clinical and laboratory environments with regular exposure to blood body fluids sharps and infectious materials. The role may encounter frequent interruptions varying patient volumes and the need to travel between patient areas and laboratory locations.
