The Career Counselor actively supports APU students and alumni through providing career development services within the Career Center. The Career Counselors primary role is to serve as a main career consultant through conducting 1:1 consulting appointments collaborating on campus wide resources partnering with faculty and staff across all APU campuses helping to facilitate employer engagement initiatives and supporting the Career Center team as a whole. The Career Counselor will train other career consultants on the team to develop their consulting skills career expertise and professional development and to gain experience working in the field of student affairs. The Career Counselor is an integral member of the Career Center team.
This is a part-time position averaging 18 hours per week. This position is fully grant-funded and contingent on grant-funding.
Required Education
- Bachelors degree in a related field (Business Administration Communication StudiesHuman Resources Psychology etc.).
Required Experience
- One to two years working in a higher education and/or career services setting is preferred.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Manage and conduct 1:1 consulting appointments with APU students and alumni (virtuallyand in-person):
- Provide support through resume review cover letter review job/internship searchmock interviews LinkedIn profile review grad school search and prep CV andadvanced resume review and career exploration.
- Manage facilitate and present Career Center Workshops to APU students across allcampuses designed to promote professional development; partner with APU faculty andstaff to offer these workshops:
- Approve workshop requests via Formstack and professionally communicate withAPU community and the Career Center team.
- Provide updates to the Centers career consultants on a variety of professional developmentappointment and workshop topics.
- Support employer visits recruitment experiences and professional development programsdelivered at APU campuses for students and alumni.
- Process Handshake tasks in a timely manner in order to provide information and careeropportunities to our students and alumni:
- Approve new employers jobs internships and event requests/postings throughHandshake APUs career platform.
- Support the facilitation and data analysis of the First Destination Survey.
- Collaborate with the Career Center team in developing and publishing campus wide resources:
- Create update and design new and existing Career Center resources through researching current trends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Adaptable in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining quality of work.
- Knowledge of Google Suite (i.e. Drive Calendar Slides etc.).
- Knowledge of Zoom and/or Google Meets functions.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work and collaborate with a dynamic and diverse team.
- Ready to contribute unique strengths and think creatively.
- Prior experience in an office position working within a college/university environment or with college students.
- Awareness of APU Career Center services.
- Experience with a career platform (e.g. Handshake) is preferred.

Compensation
- Grade 7: $19.49 to $22.41 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications experience and internal addition to compensation APU offers a competitive benefits package.
