Job Summary

Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach

The Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach works with co-workers the Program Director Program Coordinators and other Leadership team members to implement the vision and mission of Marin Ventures. The Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach is responsible for engaging and supporting the program participants during classes and activities. The Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach focuses on creating and implementing art-based curriculum. All employees are responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment for program participants.

The Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach assists the Creative Arts Director with implementing the participants Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) and other program service activities. The Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach must be able to work as part of a team or on their own. The Arts Instructor/Life Skills Coach must also demonstrate the agencies values of Empathy Inclusion Innovation Consistency and Integrity.

Marin Ventures is a community day program operating Weekdays 7am to 3:30 pm for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. A friendly and inviting place we provide a community for our participants to interact with others and engage in self-directed activities geared to thier interests and abilities. We are known for providing care for medically fragile and in some cases older adults and for our art program. While some of our clients have medically complex needs we do not serve individuals with behavioral disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruct and engage in activities reflecting program participants preferences and goals.
  • Support participants to maximize independence in all activities.
  • Teach and train participants in life skills.
  • Help create and organize classroom activities and community outings.
  • Assist participants with lunch and snacks including supervision of meal times and assisting participants with eating.
  • Assisting participants with personal care and hygiene.
  • Take participants on community outings using agency vehicles personal car and/or public transportation.
  • Complete basic documentation: observation and seizure reports case notes data on clients goals and objectives van logs mileage/expense reports and administrative paperwork.
  • Share observations regarding participant progress or concerns with Program Coordinators.
  • Helps create and set up art curriculum and the activities offered on a day to day basis.
  • Coaches co-workers on how to support participants while completing art projects.
  • Explores and implements adaptive art options that allow for anyone to participate in art despite limitations.
  • Assists the Creative Arts Director with special art projects including but not limited to photographing and archiving art work framing artwork setting up and helping hang art shows hosting external art classes and implementing new art activities.
  • Provides direct assistance and coaching to program participants related to current art projects.
  • Treats participant art work with respect by helping frame display and/or properly store work. Keeping organization in mind.
  • Assists with setting up the art space in a way that helps encourage participant independence accounts for safety risks and improves organization and tidiness.
  • Pays particular attention to art supplies and works with the Creative Arts Director to ensure supplies are stocked and well organized.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma; bachelors degree in art related field teaching or another relevant field is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge related to fine arts demonstrated by a combination of education and/or practical experience.
  • At least one year of experience working with people who have developmental disabilities or personal experience with those that have developmental disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be physically capable of completing job related tasks such as lifting 25lbs and standing for an entire shift
  • Personality: Upbeat/positive attitude takes initiative dependable takes pride in work.
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles when required.
  • Must have current valid CA drivers license and clean driving record and has had drivers license for minimum of two years. Insurable under Marin Ventures company insurance.
  • Regularly reach bend kneel stoop climb walk crawl push and pull objects and lift weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Have the ability to push and pull participants in wheelchairs weighing up to 250 lbs operate participant lifting equipment partake in 2-person transfers lifting participants.
  • Be able to work in both quiet and noisy environments.
  • Wears latex or vinyl gloves regularly for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to clock in and out of work using an online account or phone app.

COMPENSATION

  • $23.50-25/hour
  • Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm unless an alternative schedule is assigned.
