The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission is recruiting

for a Paralegal 1/2 located in Juneau Alaska!


What you will be doing:

As the CFEC Paralegal youll never be bored! Youll learn to independently perform a variety of hearing-related work (e.g. legal and general research case briefing drafting legal documents case preparation hearing scheduling and coordination evidence management customer support and more). Youll also learn to independently perform work associated with the limitation of fisheries in Alaska (e.g. applying complex regulations to evaluate limited entry applications calculating and applying qualification formulas playing a role in designing and using systems to manage the process and more). As one of CFECs Records Officers youll learn to independently manage CFEC records to ensure compliance with confidentiality policies governing law/regulations and the CFEC Records Retention Schedule (RRS). Youll also have the opportunity to interact with ADF&G staff across Alaska as you learn to independently manage confidential fish tickets. Finally youll enjoy variety as you work with not just the Hearing Officer but the CFEC Commissioners and Law Specialist with other projects as opportunities arise.

Who we are looking for:

For the Paralegal 1:

  • Ability to learn to independently perform advanced Paralegal work including legal and general research case briefing analysis of precedence/case law via concise clear writing drafting legal documents case file preparation hearing scheduling and coordination evidence management and correspondence drafting.
  • Ability to learn to independently comprehend interpret and apply complex written material such as statutes regulations legal terminology court rules and procedures texts and journals contracts case law board/commission opinions and/or similar resource material.
  • Ability to learn to independently assimilate and apply new information reason logically utilize analytical techniques to solve problems analyze data develop alternatives and recommend specific actions.
  • Ability to learn to successfully manage your time and multiple priorities be highly productive prioritize assignments meet pressing deadlines with a positive attitude and remain flexible and responsive to changing workflows.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective positive relationships listen actively recognize and independently respond to nonverbal communication cues and communicate and work effectively and positively with a variety of people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds including those who may be in the midst of emotional or crisis situations.

For the Paralegal 2:
