Job Overview
The Sunnybrook Research Institute Department of Psychiatry affiliated with the University of Toronto is seeking an energetic and efficient Research Assistant in the Suicide Prevention Research Collaborative (SPRC) lab to work in the areas of suicide prevention mood disorders and quality improvement. This individual will report to Dr. Mark Sinyor and work closely with the lab manager and other research assistants. They will perform clinical research activities and coordinate multiple research studies including clinical trials in a dynamic and collegial environment.
Required:
- An Honours bachelors degree in psychology or related area with preference given to individuals with at least 2 years of previous research experience in public health epidemiology psychology and/or psychiatry.
- Excellent academic writing communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience with handling multiple research tasks within projects such as maintaining research integrity protocol writing recruitment data collection and data entry.
- Experience in conducting chart reviews and database management.
- Competence with data collection management and statistical software such as NVivo SPSS R and REDCap.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative environment.
- Previous experience working in and/or researching low- and middle-income countries is an asset
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to work on a number of projects led by Dr. Mark Sinyor the details of the job responsibilities will be based on the candidates expertise and the needs of the projects. Some of the responsibilities may include:
- Continue our data collection project and retrospective chart review at the Office of the Chief Coroner (see Coroner Studies on our website).
- This may include supporting the process of data transferring (data entry and post quality-checking) database construction and merging and data migration monitoring.
- Assist in organizing the Partnerships for Life initiative.
- This may include liaising with international suicide prevention stakeholders in the Americas region.
- Assist with our school-based trials (see MyOWL on our website).
- This may include liaising with school administrators consent data collection data analysis and manuscript writeup.
- Assist in projects related to media (see Media Studies on our website)
- This may include assessing the quality of various media types and examining the effects of suicide-related media on suicide rates.
- Assist in AI-related suicide and mental health research projects
- This may include developing novel AI-based research methodologies to analyze large-scale and complex datasets in support of risk identification and prevention efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal investigator.
- Additional responsibilities may become available dependent on upon pending grant(s) notification.
