The Town of Cave Creekhas an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position ofUtility Worker I. The Town of Cave Creek operates the water distribution system throughout the Town of Cave Creek and the Desert Hills Community.
The Utility Worker reports to the Field Operations Supervisor. The primary function of a Utility Worker is to operate the water distribution system including water mains service connections fire hydrants and valves. Other duties include but are not limited to conducting inspections reading and repairing meters conducting other repairs completing work orders and assisting in blue staking of utility assets.
The individual selected must also be able to work closely with other departments outside and public agencies coworkers and the general public. This individual will also be able to cope with the environmental challenges that are unique to working outdoors in traffic and the Arizona summers. Additionally we train new employees in all aspects of the operation and maintenance our water system to ensure the safest workplace possible.

Examples of Duties
The successful candidate must meet the physical standards and requirements for working in confined spaces and trenches. Work will require climbing portable ladders and entering confined spaces.Utility Workers will be required to be on an On-Call Rotation that may require work outside of the normal schedule.
This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive direction from Field Operations Supervisor to perform activities associated with water distribution system maintenance & repair.
- Installing repairing or replacing service lines water meters hydrants valves and main lines.
- Assist in blue staking of utility assists.
- Read water meters and respond to customer service requests.
- Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment including boring equipment service/crane truck tapping equipment backhoe loader dump truck pick-up hand tools jackhammers whackers digging bars and shovels.
- Assist with maintenance and repairs related to the sewer collection system.
- Comply with safety standards regulations and policies. Must follow OSHA and Town safety standards including the use and wear of respirators hard hats protective clothing/eyewear/footwear and other related materials or equipment. Confined space entry.
- Required to be on call 24 hours on an emergency basis; weekends nights and holidays.
- Perform other related duties as assigned; may be called upon to assist other divisions within the Town
Typical Qualifications
Candidates forUtility Worker I must possess the following requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 0-2 years or more of experience in the field of water distribution and related equipment operations and maintenance.
- Must obtain and maintain a Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain an ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution certification within 6 months of hire.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Working knowledge of materials practices and equipment used in water system maintenance and repair activities; occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating assigned equipment; common hand and power tools; basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Workplace safety hazards procedures and equipment used when working on or near underground utility lines.
- General procedures for installing maintaining and repairing underground water infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS IN:- Ability to perceive and understand written and oral instructions.
- Ability to discern audible warning or emergency alarms including vehicle backup warnings and to discern color-coded alarms and equipment indicators.
- Ability to read comprehend and interpret written materials such as manuals Safety Data Sheets system maps and diagrams. Ability to maintain daily logs and prepare general written reports and e-mails etc.
- Ability to use Personal Computer Tablet and smart phones.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software Internet Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) Customer Service software and GIS systems.
- Ability to deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions percentages ratios/proportions measurement and unit conversions.
- Ability to work in small cramped spaces such as trenches to repair water mains or service connections using PPE and in a variety of weather conditions.
