DescriptionPerforms decontamination assembly and inspection of equipment and instruments; operates sterilizers with accuracy; and completes biological and integrator testing while maintaining required documentation under the direct supervision of the Supervisor. The Sterile Processing Technician also rotates and restocks sterile supplies in accordance with infection control standards to support a safe and dependable environment for patient care.
ResponsibilitiesOperational Excellence
- Clean and prepare surgical instruments for the sterilization process.
- Assemble routine and specialty surgical instrument trays and other sterile supply sets fulfilling special requests as needed.
- Operate and maintain steam autoclaves ensuring accurate documentation of completed loads contents and all maintenance activities.
- Record and track sterilizer test results to support compliance and safety standards.
Quality & Patient Safety
- Inspect equipment to identify leaks worn components or other signs of malfunction.
- Verify that sterile supplies are current and within designated expiration dates.
- Report malfunctioning or defective equipment promptly to the appropriate supervisor or department.
Team Member Experience
- Participate in hospital in-service training and educational programs related to work responsibilities and areas of specialization.
Qualifications- Completion of a Sterile Processing Department (SPD) apprenticeship or prior experience working as an SPD Technician.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
