Accounting Technician 1!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 12.

This position is located in Juneau. However this position may be relocated within Alaska with necessary approvals where infrastructure allows.


What You Will Be Doing:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated professional to join our team in supporting the Divisions financial operations. The Accounting Technician 1 processes a high volume of payments to vendors and program participants. This position is responsible to researching transactions in the Divisions case management system as well as the State accounting system and provides guidance to field staff regarding fiscal policies and practices.

Located in downtown Juneau our office sits at the base of the Juneau-Douglas Bridge offering convenient access plenty of parking and proximity to Overstreet Park and the scenic Whale Walk. Your spacious workstation is equipped with dual monitors and an ergonomic setup supporting both comfort and productivity. This position also offers the potential for a hybrid telework schedule following the successful completion of a 6 month probationary period.

Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques including accounts receivable accounts payable and disbursing officers accountability.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

  • Organizational Awareness: Knows the organizations mission and functions and how its social political and technological systems work and operates effectively within them; this includes the programs policies procedures rules and regulations of the organization.

Qualifications

One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Substitutions:
Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
