JOB DESCRIPTION
The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre in the autonomous region of Catalonia in Northern Spain dedicated to increasing scientific knowledge and transferring it to improve the care and lives of patients. The Institute is associated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and is part of the Can Ruti biomedical campus. IGTP is a CERCA centre and is also accredited as a centre of excellence by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and is in charge of coordinating the management and scientific strategy of the campus working in close collaboration with the other centres.

The Badalona Neuromuscular Research Group (GRENBA) is a multidisciplinary team made up of specialised basic and traslational researchers in the laboratory at IGTP and clinical staff from the Neurology and Paediatric services at Germans Trias i Pujol University main goal is to find solutions for patients with neuromuscular diseases and to achieve this our team draws on its extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of these patients and has recently built up a strong patient the laboratory we have extensive experience in genetic epigenetic transcriptomic and proteomic techniques to study the pathogenicity of the most prevalent neuromuscular diseases such as myotonic dystrophy type I Duchenne muscular dystrophy and glycogenosis V at the molecular level. Our team also has experience in generating patient-derived cellular models and in designing and testing new treatments in vitro in vivo and in addition we work on numerous collaborative projects with national and international researchers also involved in the study of these neuromuscular line of research in which the candidate would work focuses on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) the most prevalent muscular dystrophy in childhood which is a very severe genetic muscle disorder marked by progressive muscle degeneration in which chronic inflammation fibrosis and
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cell culture of humans and mouse cells
  • Cell toxicity and cell viability tests
  • WB and qPCR analyses
  • Immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry techniques
  • Microscopy and image analyses
  • FAC sorting
  • Animal experimentation with mouse models
  • Co-supervision of undergraduate masters or doctoral students.
  • Writing scientific papers and disseminating project results
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
Candidate must comply with the Sara Borrell Contracts eligibility criteria set by the call:

Supported fellows:
  • Must be in possession of doctoral degree at the call deadline (5thMarch 2026).
  • Nationality: Any.
  • Priority will be given to candidates with an outstanding record of research achievements and publications.
  • Experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques is required.
  • Proven experience with animal modelling handling (mouse) is required.
  • Experience in application and writing of articles and research projects will be a plus.
  • We are looking for talented innovative and hard-working young scientists who are highly motivated to do research in the field of neuromuscular diseases.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken) will be a plus.
