Overview
Emergency Department Technician- Evening Shift
FTE: 0.6 FTE (Part-time 24 hours per week)
Shift: 4:00pm - 12:30am every other Fri/Sat/Sun and Holiday; hours during the week may vary
The Emergency Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of basic non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and physicians. Plays an important role in patient care by assisting with vital signs transport patient hygiene equipment setup and environmental cleanliness to ensure a safe and efficient care environment. Reports and records observations and contribute to the efficient functionality of the department.

Responsibilities
- Completes care for adult and geriatric patients as assigned by the registered nurse.
- Functions in day-to-day and emergency situations in accordance with nursing standards and as assigned by the nurse.
- Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
- Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
- Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities performance improvement activities and other related activities.
- Obtains electrocardiograms per physician orders.
- Assists RN to establish EKG telemetry noninvasive blood pressure and oximetry and temperature readings.
- Performs clerical duties as assigned.
- Documents ADLs within the online medical record.
- Performs Glucose Point of Care.
Qualifications
Education:
- Seventy-five (75) Hour Nursing Assistant Course or nursing students to have completed Nursing Foundations preferred but not required.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to exercise good judgment maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change.
- Ability to organize work.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment.
- BCLS completion required.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients.
- Member of the Support stroke team requiring 2 hours of annual stroke education.
