Still Creek Surgical Centre a division of Clearpoint Health Network is recruiting for a Operating Room Aide

Position: Casual

Wage: 21/hr-24/hr

Position summary:

Reporting to Nurse Manager the Operating Room Aide is responsible and accountable for providing direct support to the surgical unit to facilitate the processing of patients. The Operating Room Aide will act in accordance with policies and procedures for appropriate and safe care of patients and maintenance of the facility and its equipment. The Operating Room Aide must have a comprehensive understanding of safety regulations related to cleaning products and material handling while demonstrating a professional and caring approach in dealing with clients co-workers and supervisors.

Daily Routine (in order of priority if not otherwise specified by Nurse Manager ):

Morning:

  • Be available to OR for turnovers/specimens
  • Be available to PAR for screening/settling of patients and turnovers as needed
  • When not needed for turnovers or direct patient care may proceed with other duties listed in responsibilities prioritizing according to urgency
  • Breaks to be taken in between being needed in OR/PAR and to communicate with teams to ensure proper timing
  • Assess situation and if needed to leave clinic for (clinic duties) other than specimen transport notify OR/PAR so they are aware where you are

End of Day:

  • End of day anesthetic cart and machine restocking set up OR for next day as needed
  • Ensure specimens/charts are taken to hospital before end of day or as soon as able next morning (required to have charts to medical records within 24 hours)

Responsibilities:

OR:

  • Specimen transport for Fine Wire/Radioseed/End of day
  • Turnover between cases
  • Stocking of anesthetic cart/machine at end of day
  • Receiving medication shipments verify contents against packing slip packing slip against PO
  • Setting up room gathering equipment for next day
  • Returning supplies at end of day

PAR:

  • Screening/settling patients as needed
  • Turning over stretchers/rooms as needed
  • Transport of patients via wheelchair to their vehicle as needed

MDR:

  • Restocking as necessary in substerile room/OR utilizing FIFO
  • Identify items for reordering and notify charge nurse
  • Transport to/from hospital for supplies as needed
  • Pack up loaners and send/return to receiving facility track in loaner binders

Front:

  • Chart/label transport to and from hospital
  • Receiving linen and restocking changerooms warming cupboard and PAR dresser every M W F and as needed
  • Make up patient belongings bag with gown hat shoe covers
  • Grocery shopping for patient refreshments staff coffee supplies and fruit once a week or as needed

Education Qualifications & Skills

  • Grade 12 successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing course and graduation from a recognized NursingAssistant Program plus one (1) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IPAC and WHMIS standards and procedures
  • Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Must be capable of working under pressure and performing a wide range of duties that requires independence
  • Ability to frequently lift walk push pull and stand is required
  • Sensitivity to patient and staff requirements
  • Must be proactive cooperative alert accept directions and be able to function as a team member
