Night Shift 4x12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM 7:00 AM)
The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse provides high-quality evidence-based care to adult patients requiring intermediate-level monitoring and treatment. This unit serves as a critical care step-down environment caring for patients transitioning from higher-acuity settings or requiring advanced monitoring beyond a general medical-surgical unit.
Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult acute-care patients in a PCU/IMCU setting
Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias appropriately
Participate in Rapid Response and Code Team interventions
Manage IV therapy including peripheral line care and phlebotomy
Administer and titrate IV medications including vasopressors as ordered
Care for patients with arterial lines and central venous lines
Deliver respiratory support including nasal cannula oxygen masks portable oxygen tanks and non-invasive airway management (BiPAP)
Maintain continuous telemetry and pulse-oximetry monitoring for all assigned patients
Implement isolation precautions and infection prevention measures
Adapt patient care plans to individual needs using a multidisciplinary approach
Provide vigilant compassionate and patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment
Intermediate Care / Progressive Care (Step-Down) Unit
Receives patients from Emergency Department PACU ICU and Medical-Surgical units
Patient population includes adult patients requiring advanced monitoring and interventions
Common patient needs include airway management BiPAP support arterial and central lines and titrated IV infusions
Nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:5 to 1:7 depending on acuity
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific requirements apply)
Minimum 1 year of recent PCU IMCU or equivalent acute-care experience
Proven experience with:
Cardiac rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia management
Rapid Response and Code Team participation
Arterial line monitoring and/or vasopressor titration
Peripheral IV management and phlebotomy
Non-invasive respiratory support (BiPAP)
BLS (AHA)
ACLS (AHA)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Strong clinical judgment in step-down or high-acuity medical-surgical environments
Ability to manage multiple complex patients simultaneously
Effective communication and collaboration within interdisciplinary teams
