(VAC) serving Rutland and Vermont since the Role: Position: (2) Therapeutic Advocates (K-6) at Sheldon Academy Location: Rutland VT 05701 (Relocation required) Pay: $17.00 - $17.25 per hour (depending on qualifications) Hours: Work 8-hour day shifts (Monday to Friday 8am-4pm) for a 10-month position following the school calendar for seasonal breaks and federal Responsibilities: Adapt to various conditions including physical threats swearing and travel in mini vans with studentswhile maintaining physical fitness and participating in activities like swimming. Stay emotionally stable neutral and professional in challenging situations avoiding power strugglesanger or personal agendas that hinder duties. Deliver instruction behavioral interventions and consultation to outside districts/agencies as neededensuring students academic and emotional needs are met. Observe student behaviors assess internal/external factors and apply appropriate interventionsincluding de-escalation token economies and crisis intervention techniques. Implement teacher-provided lessons give direct instruction in core subjects under supervisionand assist in planning schedules and educational activities. Maintain accurate records of behavior academics attendance and evaluations while effectively communicating with parents LEAs and evaluators. Work closely with the Director of Education clinical staff and other personnel to ensure student health safety and program effectiveness. Follow all Sheldon Academy and VAC policies participate in crisis intervention training and maintain required certifications for student and staff : High School Diploma required B.S. or B.A. preferably in the field of Child Development Education or other related area desired. Two years work experience in a school preferably working with behavior disordered and/or seriously emotionally disturbed children. Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships with students parents and staff fostering a collaborative environment. Understanding of learning and emotional-behavioral disabilities child and adolescent development and relevant policies with strong communication skills to represent Sheldon Academy and VAC professionally. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. A current valid drivers license is required for operating company vehicles and transporting goods equipment personnel or students as part of job responsibilities. Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive background check to ensure the safety and well-being of students and compliance with school and daycare standards. Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
