Location
Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care in a Medical Surgical / Telemetry setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN will manage an assigned patient load while collaborating closely with RNs and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe effective and patient-centered care in an acute care hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and document vital signs pain assessments intake and output monitoring
Provide patient care in accordance with established clinical protocols and standards
Administer medications via oral IM SQ NG/G-tube and topical routes (ear and eye drops)
Perform IV therapy using pumps and assist with IV maintenance
Monitor blood glucose levels and report abnormal values
Provide oxygen therapy via nasal cannula
Assist with telemetry monitoring and perform 12-lead EKGs
Deliver basic wound care including simple dressings and drain care (JP/Hemovac)
Perform Foley catheter insertion (male and female) and clean-catch urine collection
Manage feeding tubes and provide routine bathing and oral care
Follow isolation precautions and assist with physical restraint protocols
Communicate patient condition changes promptly to RN and/or physician
Maintain accurate documentation using the electronic medical record
Required Clinical Skills & Experience
Ability to manage an assigned patient workload with RN support
Minimum of recent acute care experience within the last 2 years
Experience in a Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry care environment
Proficiency in specimen labeling and safe patient handling
Unit & Floating Requirements
Patient Ratios (Days): 1:56
Patient Population: Medical patients including COPD exacerbations infections failure to thrive and complex social care needs
Floating: Required within scope of practice and skillset
Charting System
Licensure & Certifications
Active New York State LPN license required (NY is not a compact state)
Pending licenses will not be accepted
BLS certification required
