As a cornerstone of the Pueblo community for over a century Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a leading employer provider of quality mental health services and a community partner. CMHHIP is a 24 hour behavioral health acute care facility that is intended to provide a safe secure and therapeutic setting for patients with both psychiatric and medical issues. The services provided include evaluation and treatment for patients who are severely mentally ill and the goal of this facility is to return patients to their optimal level of functioning and assist them in returning to the community as appropriate.




Description of Job

You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times.

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the CMHHIP Campus

About the Position:
This position supervises coordinates and directs the delivery of Social Work services throughout the hospital. The position provides direction and guidance to staff within the Social Work department in order to ensure compliance with hospital policy regulatory agencies professional and ethical standards. This position facilitates and monitors admissions treatment patient progression discharge planning community re-integration and provides coverage of subordinate staff within the department as needed. This position will attend and participate in assigned committees meetings workgroups and projects. They will also participate and work with community resources as needed to provide continuity of care to the patients we serve. This position attends Morning Report and Oversight meetings for Units and staff they supervise. This position provides Clinical Supervision of Social Work services to include but not limited to individual family and group therapies as well as psychosocial treatments to include multisystem education advocacy and case management. Develop guidelines to implement programs that achieve the hospital mission. This position will participate in and review quality initiatives by tracking and analyzing trends providing input and feedback and implementing changes to improve results. This role requires proactively applying critical thinking judgment and resourcefulness to interpret diverse circumstances and develop new guidelines that shape the implementation of agency programs. Success in this position depends on effectively utilizing education and training to inform decisions and actions.
Duties in the position include:

Management:
  • Responsible for the direction supervision and management of all assigned Social Work staff
  • Works under the direction of the Director of Social Work
  • Coordinates staff schedules and ensures there is adequate coverage to provide patient care
  • Coordinates treatment schedules with the COT Staffing Office to include agency and internal staff coverage
  • Cover staffing shifts as needed
  • Responsible for monitoring and making necessary adjustments to timecards
  • Makes decisions about staff needs ensures social work standards are being followed and provides supervision to all shifts and social work disciplines classified below the SWS
  • Responsible for provision of clinical and administrative supervision professional development employee performance evaluations employee performance plans and corrective actions staff scheduling position descriptions recruitment retention interviewing and hiring onboarding training and ensuring hospital-wide required training has been completed
  • Facilitates the orientation of newly hired social workers
  • Attends and participates in committees and interview panels as designated by the Director of Social Work
  • Responsible for the completion of department-specific audits to support high-quality documentation assessment report writing and treatment
  • Responsible for all social work services provided on the assigned units and for ensuring that all social work assignments and duties are completed in compliance with CMHHIP policies relevant social work standards licensure requirements and governing bodies
  • Notify unit social work staff of changes to processes policies and procedures through communication methods such as meetings email and individual contact
  • Assigns current direct care staff member as a mentor for guidance and training to students and new employees
  • Ensures social work staff are knowledgeable about each patients Plan of Care Individual Behavior Plan patient-specific treatment needs and each patients discharge plan
  • Supervision of direct reports conducted and documented regularly
  • Interprets agency policy and social work best practices to guide supervisory decisions
  • Refers to and follows policy to maintain consistent quality and ethical practice
  • Disseminates information to other disciplines and department leadership regarding social work directives using effective communication
  • Collaborates with department leadership and safety personnel in the event of safety and security needs ensuring safety measures are delivered
  • May travel to attend training court hearings transport patients to appointments and other related activities
Quality Assurance/Chart Auditing and Documentation Review:
  • Focuses on measuring monitoring and managing services to achieve desired outcomes for patients. The systemic process assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of social work assessment documentation treatment plan and discharge planning to meet professional social work standards
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and agencies
  • Reviews and audits clinical documentation to ensure accuracy timeliness and adherence to best practices by participating and collaborating with quality assurance programs and audits
  • Procures data from electronic health records social workers and others in order to identify individual treatment needs
  • Responsible for conducting regular audits of documentation to ensure completeness accuracy and compliance with hospital and state standards. This includes monitoring timeliness of entries reviewing treatment plans progress notes and discharge summaries ensuring notes meet quality assurance and regulatory requirements
Professional Development and Staff Education:
  • Ensures staff maintain and enhance their professional knowledge and skills.
  • Identify training needs provide coaching and mentoring and ensuring compliance with continuing education and licensing requirements
  • Assess staff strengths and areas for development and growth through observation supervision and performance review
  • Develop professional development plans in collaboration with staff aligning goals with hospital priorities and best practice standards
  • Promotes staff involvement in committees workgroups and hospital quality improvement initiatives to foster growth
  • Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge licensure and clinical skills through ongoing continuing education and training
  • Plan and facilitate in-service training on social work practices hospital procedures policies and compliance standards
  • Prioritizes and decides which staff attend conferences workshops or hospital training within budgetary and schedule constraints
Student Training Student Supervision and Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Responsible for building relationships with academic institutions creating training opportunities appropriate to skill level and creating a didactic curriculum
  • Supervises members of their team in the supervision of the externship students (supervision of supervision)
  • Other duties as assigned to include hospital-wide ad hoc activities milieu support patient transport etc

Minimum Qualifications Substitutions Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

Current valid Colorado licensure as a:

  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) OR
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) OR
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) OR
  • Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC)

And two (2) years of licensed supervisory experience including :

  • Performance management and coaching

  • Delegation and oversight of workload

Applicants for supervisory positions must have licensure that meets the legal requirements to perform supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing pre-licensed and or licensed staff

  • Experience with audits and documentation compliance

  • Experience implementing policies and Social Work practice guidelines

  • Experience providing clinical oversight for Social Work services including review of assessments risk determinations and treatment planning

  • Experience addressing ethical concerns boundary issues and or professional conduct matters among staff

  • Successfully pass all modules of the CMHIP New Employee Orientation core curriculum to include English reading comprehension relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics
  • Possess the physical ability to successfully complete CTI and CPR
  • Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist
  • Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled containment to the floor
  • Withstand impact on own body using an ASP shield
  • Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for using a defensive tactic
  • Kneel on one or both knees and stand up again with multiple repetitions
  • Must be able to see and hear in order to observe address and respond to potential breaches in safety
  • Seize hold control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
  • Demonstrate body agility strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently
  • Work in situations involving assaultive behavior physical control of another person and/or restraint situations
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language; effectively and fluently communicates in English both verbally and in writing
  • Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings
  • Travel Willing and able to travel
  • Incumbents of this position must be at least 21 years of age due to the juvenile population served at this facility
  • 2-step TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
  • Annual influenza vaccination
