Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care to adult medical-surgical patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role requires recent acute care experience and the ability to manage an assigned patient workload while supporting safe high-quality patient outcomes in a fast-paced inpatient setting.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver patient-centered nursing care in a Medical-Surgical setting under RN supervision
Perform vital signs pain assessments intake and output monitoring and blood glucose checks
Administer medications via oral IM SQ NG/G-tube and topical routes per scope of practice
Assist with IV therapy using infusion pumps as directed
Provide basic wound care including simple dressings and drain management
Perform Foley catheter insertions specimen collection bathing and hygiene care
Monitor telemetry and assist with 12-lead EKGs
Communicate patient condition changes promptly to RN and medical providers
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record
Follow infection control isolation precautions and patient safety protocols
Float to other units within scope of practice as needed
Required Clinical Skills
Recent acute care Medical-Surgical experience (within the past 2 years)
Ability to manage own patient assignment with RN support
Oxygen administration via nasal cannula
Feeding tube care and management
Telemetry monitoring
Medication administration and IV pump usage
Basic wound care and drain management
Foley catheter insertion (male and female)
Patient hygiene and mobility assistance
Effective communication and teamwork in an inpatient care environment

Adult Medical-Surgical patient population
Common diagnoses include respiratory conditions infections and general medical issues
Floating may be required based on unit needs and skill set
Typical nurse-to-patient ratios align with Medical-Surgical standards
