As a Liquor Licensing Inspector at the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations (BABLO) you will help ensure that Maines liquor licensing laws are applied consistently and fairly across the state. This position focuses on field-based compliance work and direct engagement with licensed businesses across the district.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Liquor Licensing Inspectors play a direct role in protecting public safety by ensuring compliance with liquor licensing laws. Inspectors review applications conduct on-site inspections respond to complaints and document violations as part of routine fieldwork.

RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • Support businesses by explaining licensing requirements and compliance expectations to applicants licensees and the public
  • Conduct on-site inspections of licensed liquor establishments within the assigned district to assess compliance with statutes and rules
  • Review license applications and work with applicants to resolve compliance issues
  • Perform fieldwork throughout the district including travel to licensed establishments training sites and municipal offices
  • Investigate complaints and potential violations by gathering information conducting interviews and observing operations in the field
  • Document inspection findings and prepare clear accurate written reports photographs and other supporting materials
  • Coordinate inspections and investigations with partner agencies as needed
  • Participate in administrative hearing processes including licensing and administrative violation hearings

KNOWLEDGESSKILLSANDABILITIESREQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of municipal county state and federal laws rules and regulations relating to liquor licensing and inspection.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws rules and regulations relating to production and distribution of liquor.
  • Knowledge of court and administrative processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of business and corporate structures.
  • Knowledge of accounting and record keeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of the liquor license classifications.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques.
  • Knowledge of business management practices.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize work.
  • Ability to facilitate and maintain the cooperation of the public.
  • Ability to conduct interviews to obtain information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and explain provisions of laws rules and regulations.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and reviews.
  • Ability to represent the Bureau at licensing and or court proceedings.
  • Ability to work irregular hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Intermediate education training and/or experience directly related to inspecting and/or auditing.

Preference will be given to candidates who live in the district and those with the following skills or experience:

  • Experience conducting inspections investigations or compliance reviews in a regulatory environment
  • Experience interpreting and applying statutes rules or policies
  • Experience preparing written reports findings or violation documentation
  • Experience performing fieldwork that requires travel and independent scheduling
  • Experience working with limited supervision in a public facing role
  • Experience working with proprietary licensing or case management software systems
