In this position...
In this critical role you will be responsible for the full life cycle ownership of the alternator (defined 48V or less) ensuring their robust performance quality and timely integration into Ford vehicles. A primary focus will be on actively preventing design and manufacturing failures early in the process and ensuring the design and release process consistently meets program timing



Responsibilities

What youll do...

Component Specification & Design: Develop and author comprehensive Alternator specifications (48V or less) ensuring alignment with vehicle architecture performance requirements and Ford engineering standards.

Failure Analysis & Resolution: Lead root cause analysis for any component or system failures related to low voltage power supplies employing structured problem-solving methodologies.

Quality Assurance & Improvement: Leverage advanced quality tools such as 8D methodology and Six Sigma principles to identify analyze and drive permanent resolutions for quality issues aiming for zero defects and actively preventing failures early in the design and manufacturing stages.

Cross-Functional Liaison: Serve as the primary technical liaison between external module suppliers and internal vehicle architecture teams facilitating clear communication and ensuring seamless integration of power supply components.

System Interaction Understanding: Develop a deep understanding of the interaction between low voltage power supplies vehicle software and other interconnected components within the vehicle system.

Functional Safety (ASIL): Understand and apply Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) principles as they relate to the low voltage power supply system ensuring functional safety requirements are met.

Requirements Management: Ensure that all assigned low voltage power supply components fully meet Fords requirements as documented in FEDE Jama and internal component specifications.

Program Timing Adherence: Take ownership of component delivery and ensure adherence to all program timing milestones within the Global Product Development System (GPDS) proactively managing the design and release process to meet deadlines.

Product Lifecycle Ownership: Assume full ownership for component quality throughout the entire product lifecycle encompassing initial engineering development forward model integration current production support and service field performance.

Warranty Reduction: Proactively work to drive warranty claims to zero through the development of robust component specifications rigorous supplier reviews and comprehensive FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) studies.

Supplier Management: Collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure their designs manufacturing processes and quality controls meet Fords stringent standards.



Qualifications

Youll have...


A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a closely related field.

Experience with Local Interconnect Network (LIN) and Controller Area Network (CAN) communication

5 years of experience with Alternators and Belt Integrated Starter Generators (BiSG).

Demonstrated experience in writing detailed component specifications.

Proven experience with root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Familiarity with functional safety concepts such as Automotive Safety Integrity Lever (ASIL).

5 years of experience in component design and release is highly desired.



Even better you may have...
Masters degree in engineering or a related field.

Strong understanding and practical application of quality tools such as 8D and Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred).

Experience with vehicle electrical architecture and automotive power distribution systems.

Familiarity with Ford engineering processes and tools such as: Ford Engineering Design Environment (FEDE) Jama Global Product Development System (GPDS) Jira).

Experience conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other risk assessment techniques.

Excellent communication interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively liaise between internal and external stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively.
