Rockyview Surgical Centre a division of Clearpoint Health Network located in Calgary Alberta. The Centre is a newly renovated clinic. We are equipped with four operating rooms and 1 procedure room. Our goal is to provide a relaxing environment for surgery to ensure your comfort and safety.

Position Summary

The medical device reprocessing (MDR) technician is responsible for the cleaning disassembly reassembly and sterilization of surgical supplies equipment and reusable medical devices. Principles of aseptic technique shall be used and routine infection control practices shall be MDR technician will ensure that reusable medical devices are in proper working order perform biological indicator chemical indicator and other quality assurance testing and report problems to the supervisor.

MDR technicians are on their feet walking or standing for much of their may be required to bend reach lift and move equipment and technicians are exposed to strong chemicals and bio-hazardous materials while doing their work areas can be noisy and busy and at times can be challenging or stressful.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substances regulations.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Disassemble clean assemble function test package sterilize and store reusable medical devices equipment and supplies used in surgical suite.
  • Participates cooperatively and communicates effectively with team members.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Participates in educational programs as required.
  • Assists with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by leader.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing program.
  • Must be able to read write speak and understand English fluently.
  • Recent experience in a medical device reprocessing environment as asset.

Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is very physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion such as lifting and moving objects up to 25 lbs regularly such as trays of medical instruments and sterilization equipment.
  • Prolonged standing and walking during shifts typically in a sterile processing environment.
  • Frequent bending and reaching to access equipment and supplies as well as to load and unload sterilizers.
  • Manual dexterity to handle and assemble delicate instruments and medical devices.
  • Visual acuity for inspecting and cleaning small instruments and reading instructions or labels.
  • Exertion needed to push and pull carts containing trays of instruments or medical supplies to and from various departments.
  • Repeated tasks such as sorting cleaning and assembling medical devices throughout the workday.
