Role Purpose
The Cambridge Lower Secondary & IGCSE English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality English Language (and Literature where applicable) instruction aligned with Cambridge Lower Secondary and Cambridge IGCSE syllabi. The role focuses on developing students reading writing speaking and listening skills while preparing them for Cambridge assessments through structured skill progression and rigorous academic practice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Planning & Alignment
Plan and deliver lessons aligned with:
Develop annual plans term plans and weekly lesson plans with clear learning objectives and skill progression.
Ensure vertical alignment from Lower Secondary to IGCSE particularly in:
Select age-appropriate texts and resources aligned with Cambridge expectations.
2. Teaching & Learning
Deliver engaging structured and student-centred English lessons.
Teach and model:
Reading for meaning inference and analysis
Writing techniques structure style and accuracy
Grammar vocabulary and language conventions in context
Develop students speaking and listening skills through presentations discussions and debates.
Use varied instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs including EAL learners.
3. Assessment & Feedback
Design and administer assessments aligned with Cambridge standards including:
Familiarity with Cambridge question types mark schemes and examiner expectations.
Provide clear constructive and targeted feedback to improve student outcomes.
Track student progress using data and adapt teaching accordingly.
Support internal moderation and standardisation of assessments.
4. Exam Preparation & Academic Rigor
5. Student Support & Pastoral Responsibilities
Identify students requiring academic intervention or extension.
Design and implement remedial and enrichment plans for:
Communicate effectively with parents regarding academic progress.
Act as a class teacher or pastoral mentor if assigned.
6. Professional Responsibilities
Participate in departmental meetings training sessions and school events.
Engage in continuous professional development especially related to Cambridge curriculum updates.
Contribute to collaborative planning resource development and best-practice sharing.
Adhere to school policies safeguarding protocols and professional conduct standards.
Requirements
Masters degree in English
Bachelors in Education ()
Minimum 5 years teaching experience
Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE English (0500).
Examiner or moderation experience with Cambridge (desirable).
Experience in international school settings.
This is a full-time on-campus role requiring complete professional commitment.
Concurrent employment freelance work or private tuition during the academic year is not permitted.
Pursuing any regular academic programme (full-time or part-time) that interferes with school responsibilities is not permissible.
Candidates must be able to fully dedicate their time and professional focus to the school and students.
(Any short-term or online certifications must be disclosed at the time of application.)
