Position Summary

Work independently and as a team member providing person centered support assisting housing clients. Aiding housing services staff including vacation coverage and special projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Assisting Housing Staff could include the following duties and responsibilities:

Knowledge:

Assess applications and maintain the centralized waiting list for Community Housing programs.

Assist with annual updates for households on the centralized waiting list.

Complete rent readiness assessments for households nearing the top of the centralized waiting lists.

Assess eligibility for rent geared-to-income assistance including obtaining and verifying appropriate information/documentation.

Assisting with tenant engagement activities.

Answering phones including general reception line maintenance line and staff extensions.

Assist with filing updating records including building pictures electronic documents etc.

Technology:

Use of the provincial database as well as other relevant technologies to complete daily responsibilities.

Communication:

Clearly explain necessary program requirements and responsibilities.

Use communication skills to establish collaborative relationships and support individuals through sensitive issues i.e. mental health homelessness and addictions.

General:

Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation collective bargaining agreements County Policies and Procedures etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed

Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the positions Physical Demands Analysis

Credentials Required

Minimum Formal Education

Completion of a minimum of 1 year of university in a relevant social science program or a mixture of the completion of 1 year of a community college Social Service Worker program with relevant work and/or placement experience.

Experience

Work and/or volunteer experience in a social services setting preferred.

A valid Ontario drivers license and use of a vehicle.

Summer Student positions with the County of Lambton may be dependent on funding and the funding criteria which specifies that students must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age
Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
Canadian citizens permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Will not have another full-time job
