About the role

The New Zealand Law Society Library provides an essential service to the legal profession in New Zealand by ensuring access to legal information for all practitioners. The Library houses an extensive online and print legal collection for New Zealand and Commonwealth jurisdictions. There are three staffed research libraries in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch and access to online subscription databases in thirty-three court locations around the country.

The Collections Librarian plays a key role in delivering highquality library services that support the information needs of legal practitioners throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. The role ensures that the Librarys collections remain current relevant and accessible while contributing to the acquisition cataloguing and ongoing management of both physical and digital resources.

This year we will be implementing a new Library Management System (LMS) that will transform how we deliver services and manage resources. This is an opportunity to be part of shaping the future of our collections and systems ensuring they remain innovative accessible and aligned with the needs of legal professionals across Aotearoa.

You will provide technical leadership for the LMS ensuring its functionality is optimised and supporting continuous improvement across library operations. You will also explore opportunities to integrate AI and emerging technologies to enhance access to library resources.

While based in Auckland you will work closely with colleagues in Wellington and Canterbury to support a cohesive and collaborative national library service.

Our ideal applicant will have:

  • A recognised professional library qualification.
  • 3 years experience in a library environment (law or academic libraries preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of collection development acquisitions and cataloguing; experience with Moys classification preferred.
  • Good knowledge of library technologies specifically using a modern Library Management System.
  • Proven customer service experience with the ability to engage with key stakeholders understand their needs and provide helpful and timely support.
  • High levels of accuracy attention to detail and excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • A collaborative working style and commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Curiosity and capability in exploring AI and technology solutions to enhance library services.
