As a result the school has invested heavily in pastoral support behaviour mentoring and SEND provision. Due to an increase in the number of pupils requiring additional behavioural and emotional support across Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1 the school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team.
Role Overview
The Behaviour Mentor will work closely with pupils who experience difficulties with emotional regulation behaviour for learning social interaction or school routines. Many children supported in this role may have SEMH needs ASD ADHD attachment difficulties or delayed emotional development.
This is a highly rewarding role that requires patience empathy and resilience. You will act as a consistent trusted adult helping children to feel safe understood and supported throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 behavioural and emotional support for identified pupils
Deliver small group interventions focused on emotional literacy and social skills
Support children within Nursery and classroom environments
Assist pupils during transitions playtimes and lunchtime periods
Implement individual behaviour support plans and strategies
Use play-based restorative and trauma-informed approaches
Work collaboratively with class teachers EYFS staff and the SENCO
Monitor and record progress behaviour patterns and outcomes
Attend review meetings and contribute professional observations
Build positive relationships with parents and carers
Support safeguarding and child protection procedures
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be calm nurturing and emotionally intelligent with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You should have experience working with children who present with challenging behaviour and a strong understanding of early childhood development.
The school is looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Experience in a Primary Nursery or EYFS setting
Knowledge of SEND SEMH or attachment-based approaches
A consistent and positive approach to behaviour support
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Emotional resilience and adaptability
A proactive and reflective mindset
Relevant qualifications in childcare education psychology youth work or mental health are advantageous but not essential.
Training and Professional Development
