School leaders believe strongly in early intervention and recognise that behavioural challenges in young children are often linked to unmet emotional or developmental needs. With an increasing number of pupils requiring additional support across EYFS and Key Stage 1 the school is seeking a compassionate and skilled Behaviour Mentor to join their team.
As a Behaviour Mentor you will support children who experience difficulties with emotional regulation behaviour for learning or social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs ASD ADHD speech and language delays or attachment-related behaviours.
You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to deliver targeted interventions and consistent behaviour strategies helping children feel secure supported and ready to learn.
Provide 1:1 emotional and behavioural mentoring
Deliver small group interventions focused on social and emotional skills
Support children within Nursery and classroom environments
Assist pupils during transitions and daily routines
Support behaviour during unstructured times
Implement behaviour support plans effectively
Use trauma-informed and play-based approaches
Collaborate with teachers EYFS staff SENCO and pastoral teams
Monitor record and report on pupil progress
Contribute to review meetings and planning discussions
Build positive relationships with families and carers
Uphold safeguarding and child protection standards
You will be patient nurturing and emotionally intelligent with a genuine passion for supporting young children. The school is seeking someone who understands that behaviour is communication and who can respond with empathy and professionalism.
You should have:
Experience working in a Primary Nursery or EYFS setting
Knowledge of SEND SEMH or trauma-informed practice
A calm and consistent behaviour management style
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Emotional resilience and flexibility
Experience in childcare education psychology youth work or mental health is highly desirable.
