To address this the school has developed robust behaviour mentoring programmes SEND provision and pastoral support systems. The Behaviour Mentor role is pivotal in supporting pupils to develop resilience self-confidence and positive social skills.

Role Purpose

The Behaviour Mentor will provide structured consistent support to pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour emotional regulation or social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs ADHD ASD attachment difficulties or other developmental challenges affecting social and emotional skills.

The role involves direct 1:1 support small group interventions and classroom-based support to ensure pupils can engage fully in learning. You will also work closely with teachers EYFS staff SENCO and parents to implement consistent behaviour strategies and interventions across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support for pupils with additional needs

  • Lead small group interventions targeting social skills self-regulation and emotional literacy

  • Support pupils within Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1 classrooms

  • Assist children during transitions routines and structured/unstructured activities

  • Support behaviour management during playtimes lunchtimes and other unstructured periods

  • Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans tracking progress effectively

  • Use restorative play-based and trauma-informed strategies

  • Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils

  • Observe assess and record pupil progress and outcomes of interventions

  • Collaborate with teachers SENCO EYFS staff and pastoral teams

  • Build professional relationships with parents carers and external professionals

  • Contribute to planning review meetings and multi-agency support discussions

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently

  • Promote a school culture of inclusion empathy and respect

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be patient compassionate and emotionally resilient with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You will understand that challenging behaviour is often communication and respond with empathy structure and consistency.

You should demonstrate:

  • Experience working in Primary Nursery or EYFS settings

  • Knowledge of SEND SEMH ASD ADHD and attachment-informed practice

  • Ability to implement behaviour interventions and monitor outcomes

  • Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills

  • Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment

Relevant qualifications in education childcare psychology or youth work are desirable but not essential.

Training Support and Career Development

The school provides structured induction supervision and access to specialist CPD in behaviour management SEMH SEND and early intervention. Behaviour Mentors are supported to develop skills and progress into teaching SEN support or pastoral leadership.
